Police Station

All advice and assistance whilst at the police station can be provided free of charge.

Youth Court

All youths appearing before the youth court will be eligible for legal aid if the case is sufficiently serious to justify it.  Please contact us if you require assistance.

Magistrates' Court

Legal aid may be available to cover the costs of representation in the the Magistrates' Court.  This is subject to two tests, firstly whether the case is sufficiently serious to justify it; and secondly an assesment of income and capital.

Anyone in receipt of JSA, ESA or income support will automatically satisfy the second test.

Thomas Simpson Solicitors Ltd will be happy to advise you whether you will be eligible for legal aid.  If you are not eligible we will be able to provide you with a quote for representing you.

Crown Court

Legal aid is available for all cases which will be dealt with by the Crown Court.  However some people may have to pay a contribution towards the costs of their defence.  The amount of the contribution depend on an assesment of income and capital.
